ONTARIO, June 2021 – AgScape, collaborating with Egg Farmers of Ontario (EFO), is proud to launch its curriculum-linked egg resource, An Exploration of Egg Farming in Ontario, Teacher Guide for Grades K-8.

This comprehensive resource includes a Teacher’s Guide, providing an overview of egg farming in Ontario, as well as three interdisciplinary lesson plans targeting grades K-3, grades 4-6 and grades 7-8. Many different and relevant themes such as the farm-to-table process of egg farming (K-3), the nutrients of eggs as a part of a healthy diet (4-6) and careers linked to the egg farming industry (7-8) are covered in the lesson plans provided.

AgScape and Egg Farmers of Ontario share the belief that resources like this Teacher's Guide are integral to the goal of sharing the story of egg farming and our food system with Ontario students. By working with teachers, students and the school community, this resource will give students a first-hand look into what happens on the journey of the egg from the farm to the grading station and finally, the grocery store. With its links to multiple subject areas, this resource will appeal to many of Ontario’s educators, furthering AgScape’s mission of integrating agriculture and food in the classroom.

Shaunna MacQuarrie, AgScape Project Assistant and Ontario Certified Teacher, said, “in this resource, educators will have all the information they need to fully explore the farm-to-table process of egg farming using the lessons provided as the foundation for learning and the in-depth overview and extension ideas to elevate the overall classroom learning experience.”

EFO echoed AgScape’s sentiment, “Egg Farmers of Ontario understands the importance of sharing the egg farming story with students and inspiring future generations,” said Scott Helps, EFO Chair. “The knowledge students will gain through this resource will help to dispel myths about egg farming and cultivate a well-informed youth.”

The launching of An Exploration of Egg Farming in Ontario, Teacher Guide for Grades K-8, coincides with the celebration of Ontario Local Food Week in June 2021. Utilizing this resource will allow students and educators to continue learning about the food that is cultivated and harvested in our province, as well as its hardworking producers. Educators interested in receiving this resource can register for AgScape’s Teacher Resource Packages at: .
